Sunset at Milberry Green Meadows glamping in Surrey

Milberry Green is a relaxed boutique glamping in a spectacular Surrey countryside setting on London’s doorstep. With lovely countryside views and red kites frequently spotted overhead its the perfect place to relax and unwind (without any WiFi or electricity it’s the perfect location for it)

We last did glamping with the children last year, and although they were very excited – unfortunately it didn’t go to plan, and we had to leave late that evening and admit defeat. This time though we were determined to make it work, even if it meant staying up all night!

We decided on one of the larger bell tents, as thought this would be easier with the children and a little more luxurious than our standard tent. The bell tents were very cosy, with a double bed for the adults, foldable beds for the children, water bottles and blankets. Inside the tent it was very homely, with soft snuggly blankets and cushions, and garden carpets – so it did give the home away from home feeling.

At Milberry Green there are half a dozen canvas bell tent hideaways – both furnished and unfurnished, with a further two shepherd’s huts which looked like a home from home. There is a communal playground which the children loved playing on. Something so special about playing on the swings under the starlit sky and watching the sunset.

If the weather takes a turn for the worse, then they also have a community hub area. Which is a fully sheltered area comprising of football table, ping pong, lots of toys and reading books. Plus there is also kitchen facilities if you needed to make a cuppa.

family glamping near London

The campsite itself is in a beautiful field, with a children’s play area situated right in the middle of all the tents. Perfect location as you could relax at your tent and still watch over the children playing. There are proper toilet facilities (so no need for a tinkle in a bucket), fully enclosed showers with hot running water – bliss.

Although the campsite may seem basic at first glance, we had a great stay here and had everything we needed for our mini break away.

The children loved the freedom of being outdoors, and the opportunity to run around and explore the outdoors. There was a fantastic bug hotel which we spent ages watching, and the children were fascinated to see which bugs were in there.

We were able to cook our own dinner on the campfire (was yummy sausages, mash potato and beans) Followed by toasting marshmallows – that was my favourite part. Then as a family we were able to watch the sunset from the campsite which was beautiful.

It did take a long time for the children to wind down, as they were so excited. I thought all that running around and fresh air would have tired them out but it had the opposite effect. When we finally did get to sleep it was lovely to climb into a fully furnished tent and have a cosy bed to sleep in.

Before we went glamping I was worried about how the children would cope but all in all they had a fantastic time. Although not much sleep (due to excitement) it was an adventure which they enjoyed, and we are already planning our next camping trip.
