Gliding along the beautiful River Dee, we signed up to a 30 minute Chester Boat river seeing historic Chester from a whole new perspective.
Chester Boat is a family run business and all trips leave from the Groves, it’s best to book online both to secure the best rate but also to secure your booking. You don’t have to book a specific slot which with children was a big win as lately getting out the house on time is a challenge!
During peak times the cruise runs every half an hour, we picked a 11.30 sailing and boarded our boat. The boats are pram friendly, which was a big win, had toilets (bigger win for our toddler) and even had a bar for any drinks or snacks.
The boat did a 15 minute trip up the river, there was a recorded informational voiceover telling you facts about the area but our little girl just loved looking for ducks on the river and waving to passers by and was delighted when they waved back.
The actual route leaves the mooring and heads under the Queen’s Park Suspension Bridge, past the Boathouse Inn and Grosvenor Park, and through the picturesque suburb of Boughton. We loved looking at the beautiful riverside homes and gardens, and hearing about the fascinating history of the River Dee and its surroundings. The boat then turned around and made its way back down to the mooring.
For the 30 min sailing- under 5’s are free, adults are £8.10 if booked online and over 5’s are £3.60 (reviewed June 2024).
