Can a group of 11year olds escape a Jumanji themed Escape Room??
My niece & 4 friends took on an Escape Room for the first time for her 11th Birthday. As there had to be an adult in the room, I volunteered to see what it was all about.
Break Free has 5 great scenarios to choose from, Sherlock, Island, Jumanji, CSI, and Magic. All of these bring to you challenging puzzles and tricky tasks to complete. They range in difficultly so we went for the Jumanji room as this was their easiest & most child friendly room.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the member of staff who talked us through how the escape room worked. If we get stuck on a clue, we can press a switch, she would come in and give us a hint. We could ask for lots of hints, but if we wanted to get onto the leader board, then we had to get out of the room with less than 3 hints and also in less than 30mins. The girls liked this extra challenge.
In the dimly lit room, there were all sorts of jungle decorations and sitting in the middle we found a jumanji board . The darkness added to the challenge as you must use torches to find clues and not everything you were looking for was in clear sight.
Some of the clues threw us completely and were quite hard but other times the girls really impressed me with how they worked the puzzles out, even quicker than me! All the girls were 11 years old, and even though they did ask for hints from the staff they did really well.
Working together & talking over what they were thinking was great to see. I can see why people really get into Escape rooms as it left us wanting more.
A couple of the clues had little mistakes on or were old clues that weren’t needed anymore. This made us loose some of our time trying to work them out. Luckily the staff gave us an extra 15 minutes due to this. I don’t think the girls minded but I felt it could have been a little more slick and organised.
I don’t want to give too much away about the Jumanji room and as we werent allowed to take photos inside I can’t give you a sneak peak either. But the room had alot of different clues to work out, alot more than I thought there would be. This meant you had to use a wide range of skills and knowledge to crack the codes and to work through the game.
The girls did so well that they managed to escape the world of Jumanji. They were very pleased with themselves and loved posing for photos with the “we bossed it” board”
