If you enjoy walks but can’t always get your kids motivated to come along this is a great walk for them. Bosley Cloud is a challenging walk which includes steps, climbing up a big hill and an amazing view at the top.
Those kids will feel like they have achieved a big climb when they reach the top and it’s always nice to get a photo next to trig point at the top (and yes I had to Google to find out what that’s called)
Bosley Cloud is a prominent hill situated within Cheshire’s Peak District on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire. It is 343 metres (1,125 ft) in height making it one of the highest hills in the area and one of the best places to see spectacular views of Cheshire. The path up The Cloud is part of the 35 mile long Gritstone trail.
Timbersbrook car park (CW12 3PP) is perfect for a starting point for the walk, it is free and managed by East Cheshire council. It is open 9-5pm daily. Next to the car park is a picnic area so you can have a bite to eat at the start or end of your walk. However it’s also lovely to have a little snack up at the top of the Cloud. There are no benches but simple find a flat rock to perch on, refuel and enjoy the views.
This circular walk is short at just 4 km but is full of interesting features such as a staircase of steep steps, past the National Trust sign for The Cloud and through a beautiful woodland with good clear path so no getting lost. Then you start your climb up the rocky hill to the top of Bosley Cloud which is where you will get your prize of stunning views over the Cheshire Plain including spotting Jodrell Bank. There is a great view finder that shows you what you might be able to spot in each direction.
