Tucked just over the ring road from Headington, Bernwood Road Play Park in Barton may not be huge but it’s got some great features.
When we visited for the first time, the first thing my kids ran to was the slide. I think this is possible the longest slide we’ve spotted on our adventures.
It’s not fast but has great kinks which gives a lovely long twisty ride down and appealed to both my 4 year old as well as my 10 year old.
The park was pretty much empty when we visited so my kids had great fun walking up the slide as well as shooting down it.
My youngest was really taken with the little sandpit area. It had a little climbing frame along with a pulley system to bring the sand up and tubes to send it back down again. He was so content doing this over and over that I wished I had brought a book to read in the sunshine.
There are a couple of swing options with a nest swing and regular toddler swings and then this rather usual diving board. Set on a spring, you climb up and with a good jump it gives you an extra boost into the air.
The play area is set next to a lovely grassy area to explore with stepping stones, mini standing stones and pathways to explore. It’s on a slope so not ideal for kicking around a football.
Parking is free on Bernwood Road and there are no extra facilities ie no toilets or cafe.
