Our family had such a great time at the Jolly Sailor pub in Davenport the other night! It felt like a big day out for all of us celebrating a successful settling of our youngest at nursery- which was such a relief after our eldest settling was anything but easy.
Walking in, we immediately felt at ease as the pub is really family friendly. The pub is really nicely decorated, managing to keep that cozy, traditional pub vibe while also feeling welcoming to little ones. There’s also a fantastic outdoor seating area that looked really tempting and was quite busy though we opted to stay inside since it was a bit chilly for our youngest.
Speaking of kids, the Jolly Sailor really knows how to keep the little ones happy. As soon as we sat down, the kids were handed some coloring sheets and crayons. It was such a nice touch especially when things are offered without having to ask and kept them busy while we looked over the menu. It’s those little things that make a big difference when you’re dining out with kids!
Now, onto the food. For starters, we decided to share the baked Camembert, and wow—it was amazing. Gooey, melty cheese with some crusty garlic bread to dip into it. Just perfect, our little girl loves to get involved too!
For mains, my husband went for the steak, which was cooked just right, exactly how he asked for it. It came with all the trimmings—crispy chips, a side salad, and a delicious peppercorn sauce. I opted for the chicken kebab, which came with flatbread.
The kids’ menu was a hit with our little ones. They had plenty of options to choose from, and the portions were just right. Their meals came with ice cream, which, of course, was a big hit. It’s always nice when dessert is included, especially when you’re trying to stick to a budget.
The staff were super friendly and attentive throughout our meal. They made sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us just the right amount—not too much, but enough to make us feel looked after
All in all, the Jolly Sailor is a fantastic spot for a family meal and we can’t wait to return! If you’re in the Davenport area and looking for a welcoming pub where both the adults and kids will be happy, I’d highly recommend giving it a try!
